Manchester to get congestion charge in 2013

Manchester revealed its intention to introduce peak-time congestion charging in 2013 today, but as yet it remains unclear whether hauliers will have to pay to take HGVs into the city centre.

A Manchester City Council spokeswoman confirmed that the city had received up to £3bn in government funding to improve public transport before implementing the congestion charge zone, which includes an inner and an outer zone.  However, she says that details about the scheme are still sketchy, and the final plans for HGVs have not been announced.
